Reading your board: three patterns that predict a strong month

A tower, a rising pink row, and where the minting happens. Read shapes rather than numbers, and each pattern comes with an instruction.

The board tells you what happened: every post, its earnings, its supporters, with your page and your group chat as rows beside them. Reading it well means seeing shapes rather than numbers. After enough months of cheese, three shapes in particular predict whether a strong month is coming, and each one comes with an instruction.

Pattern one: a tower

One post far above the rest. The tempting read is topic: write about that again. The better read is shape. What was the towering post structurally: a finished thing, a story with stakes, an answer to a question the room kept asking. Was it long or short, a season finale or a Tuesday one-off. Topics exhaust. Shapes repeat.

A tower predicts a strong month when you extract its format and run it again while the audience that built it is still around. It predicts nothing if you file it under lightning and change the subject. The board quoting your top post in its own words is your assignment sheet: figure out what that sentence did, and do it again in new material.

Pattern two: the pink row rising

Your page appears on the board as its own row, in pink. Page cheese is different in kind from comment cheese: comments come from registered regulars already in your orbit, while the page is where strangers and guests land. When the pink row grows across weeks, your work is escaping your existing audience, and the door is catching people the comments never could.

That is a leading indicator hiding in plain sight, because new people tip small before they tip regular. Feed it: check that the page link is everywhere strangers meet you, share a card beyond your usual channels, and greet first-time names in public. A rising pink row this month is minted regulars next month.

Guests tip from the page without registering, so the pink row is also where your future regulars first appear, before they have names you recognize.

Pattern three: where the minting happens

Every post row shows supporters minted, the people whose first-ever cheese to you landed on that post. Look across the month: is the minting spread evenly, or concentrated in a particular kind of post. It almost always concentrates, and the recruiting posts are rarely the top earners. The deep-dive farms your regulars. The origin story mints strangers.

The strong-month signal is a mix: earners plus minters, planned as different jobs. If a month minted nobody, next month’s income is this month’s crowd at best. A handful of new names in the mint column is compound interest arriving early.

The quiet anti-pattern

One shape predicts a flat month: everything even and low. No towers, no pink growth, minting near zero. This is rarely a quality problem. It is an endings problem: the month had no completions, no moments for applause to gather around. The fix is a rhythm fix. Ship something that finishes, and give the room its moment.

A note on honest reading

The board speaks in captured money and real supporters, nothing pending, nothing projected. So trust it, but read months rather than days, and never let a single quiet week rewrite your plans. Cheese follows the work with a lag.

And resist the urge to optimize every post for the board. The board is a mirror, not a boss, and audiences can smell a feed that has started chasing its own analytics. The patterns are there to choose among your instincts, never to replace them.
